My Story
I began developing my skills as an editor after starting a health and fitness business called Brass Knuckle Fitness (BKF) in 2013, a business dedicated to helping people become the best version of themselves. As a broke university student, I couldn’t afford a professional to help me create marketing material for the services, so at the cost of my studies, I spent time learning the basics of cinematography, editing, graphic design, and illustration. After several successful marketing campaigns for private training and group fitness classes, inquiries began to come in, wondering which ‘production team’ was being used to create all the BKF marketing material.
As a means of meeting the ‘demand’ with some form of ‘supply’, I created Brass Media Productions (BMP) in 2018, an in-house BKF production company that offered multimedia creation services to the public. For years these two businesses operated together to service the community until their eventual closure, partly due to obstacles presented by COVID-19. After finishing a degree in Kinesiology and Health Promotion in the summer of 2022, and fulfilling a good amount of successful non-broadcast projects, I began to entertain the prospect of editing scripted TV & Film Dramas. Strangely enough, this kind of media has always inspired me to create and build my skills to be the best version of myself.
Since I was a child, I’ve always fantasized about the idea of being a creator in the entertainment industry. There has always been an urge to contribute to the creation of media that inspires people, but I could never foresee a career path that would grant me the privilege of achieving that goal. After the summer of 2022, I needed to pivot professionally, so I considered the skills I had at my disposal, and how those skills could give me a similar fulfillment to what I’ve received from my time in Health and Fitness. This ushered in the thought of using a skill I’m really good at to build a career that would allow me to create media that could inspire, and have a positive impact on people’s lives.
Picture Editing gives me the ability to use a skill that I love to build a career as a contributor to the process of creating art that does just that.
